Does my business music service cover SOCAN rights?

It may cover some SOCAN rights, but the provider's licence to supply music is not automatically your business licence. Check the written terms for Canada, your premises, catalogue, playback method, copying, live use and online use.

Also check RE:SOUND rights in the sound recording. A provider may cover one rights layer, while Entandem or SOCAN still handles another.

Our terms answer the MelloJam case directly. We own the compositions, recordings, performances and catalogue, our catalogue contains no third-party music, and your plan includes the commercial playback rights we control through the MelloJam player. If your business plays only MelloJam through the player, you do not need a separate SOCAN or Entandem licence for the MelloJam catalogue. The only exception in our terms is a non-waivable government, statutory or collecting-society charge that local law imposes directly on the venue. SOCAN licensing and Entandem remain relevant to other music sources.
