Does my business music service cover Recorded Music NZ rights?

It may cover rights for the catalogue it supplies, but a provider licence is not automatically your business's public performance permission. Check the written terms for New Zealand, the catalogue, premises, playback method, copying and any online or live use.

Recorded Music NZ says that businesses using background music supplied by a provider will almost always need their own OneMusic licence for public performance. The official guidance is the right place to verify the current rule.

Our terms answer the MelloJam case directly. We own the compositions, recordings, performances and catalogue, our catalogue contains no third-party music, and your plan includes the commercial playback rights we control through the MelloJam player. If your business plays only MelloJam through the player, you do not need a separate Recorded Music NZ licence for the MelloJam catalogue. The only exception in our terms is a non-waivable government, statutory or collecting-society charge that local law imposes directly on the venue.
