Why is my PPL PRS invoice higher than expected?

Start by checking the premises, business category, area, employee count, capacity, devices, live music and dates on the invoice. A change in any of these can move the account into a different tariff.

Also check whether the invoice includes more than one type of use, an additional location, a renewal period or VAT. Ask PPL PRS for an itemised explanation and correct any inaccurate information in writing.

You do not need a separate PPL PRS licence if you only use MelloJam

If your business plays only MelloJam music through the MelloJam player, you are not using music from the repertoire covered by PPL PRS's licensing route. MelloJam's original catalogue and the commercial playback rights it controls are included in your MelloJam plan, so you do not need a separate licence from PPL PRS for the MelloJam playback itself.

A separate non-waivable venue charge can still apply where local law imposes one. Radio, television, Spotify, other recordings, live music, DJs, events, copying and online use are outside the MelloJam plan.
