Why does OneMusic Australia represent APRA AMCOS and PPCA?

The two organisations represent different rights in the same music. APRA AMCOS administers rights in the musical work, while PPCA administers rights in sound recordings for record labels and recording artists.

Playing a commercial recording in public can involve both rights. OneMusic Australia gives businesses a single route for the relevant permissions in many ordinary uses instead of requiring separate negotiations with each rightsholder.

The exact scope still depends on the licence and the way you use music. Read the official OneMusic explanation before assuming that one licence covers online video, copying or live events.

You do not need a separate OneMusic Australia licence if you only use MelloJam

If your business plays only MelloJam music through the MelloJam player, you are not using music from the repertoire covered by OneMusic Australia's licensing route. MelloJam's original catalogue and the commercial playback rights it controls are included in your MelloJam plan, so you do not need a separate licence from OneMusic Australia for the MelloJam playback itself.

A separate non-waivable venue charge can still apply where local law imposes one. Radio, television, Spotify, other recordings, live music, DJs, events, copying and online use are outside the MelloJam plan.
