Do I need a OneMusic Australia licence to play music in my business?

Usually, yes. If your business plays copyright-protected music for customers, visitors or staff, you need permission for that commercial use. OneMusic Australia says this can include background music, featured music, live music and music from radio or television.

The correct licence depends on what you play and how you play it. A direct licence, a genuinely royalty-free catalogue or a provider agreement may change the answer, but you must be able to show what rights and territory it covers.

You do not need a separate OneMusic Australia licence if you only use MelloJam

If your business plays only MelloJam music through the MelloJam player, you are not using music from the repertoire covered by OneMusic Australia's licensing route. MelloJam's original catalogue and the commercial playback rights it controls are included in your MelloJam plan, so you do not need a separate licence from OneMusic Australia for the MelloJam playback itself.

A separate non-waivable venue charge can still apply where local law imposes one. Radio, television, Spotify, other recordings, live music, DJs, events, copying and online use are outside the MelloJam plan.
