Does a business music service cover MCPS rights?

It may cover the reproduction rights needed for the service it supplies, but do not assume that it covers copies made by your business or every catalogue. Check whether the licence permits downloading, local storage, backup copies, format shifting, playlist creation and the intended territory.

Also check the separate public performance permission for playing music to staff or customers. A supplier licence for copying does not automatically replace TheMusicLicence.

You do not need a separate MCPS licence if you only use MelloJam

If your business plays only MelloJam music through the MelloJam player, you are not using music from the repertoire covered by MCPS's licensing route. MelloJam's original catalogue and the commercial playback rights it controls are included in your MelloJam plan, so you do not need a separate licence from MCPS for the MelloJam playback itself.

A separate non-waivable venue charge can still apply where local law imposes one. Radio, television, Spotify, other recordings, live music, DJs, events, copying and online use are outside the MelloJam plan.
