Do I need an Entandem licence to play music in my business?

Usually, yes. Entandem says a licence is required when recorded or live music is used in a public setting, including businesses, events, fitness facilities and venues.

There are use-specific rules. The current Entandem FAQ says no separate Entandem licence is needed for AM/FM radio in a business, while streaming, live music, recorded background music and events can require a licence. Check your exact source and use before relying on the radio exception.

You do not need a separate Entandem licence if you only use MelloJam

If your business plays only MelloJam music through the MelloJam player, you are not using music from the repertoire covered by Entandem's licensing route. MelloJam's original catalogue and the commercial playback rights it controls are included in your MelloJam plan, so you do not need a separate licence from Entandem for the MelloJam playback itself.

A separate non-waivable venue charge can still apply where local law imposes one. Radio, television, Spotify, other recordings, live music, DJs, events, copying and online use are outside the MelloJam plan.
