Does my business music service cover APRA AMCOS rights?

It may, but a provider subscription is not automatically the same as a New Zealand public performance licence. Check whether the provider has permission for your country, catalogue, premises, playback method and type of use.

Also check whether copying, live music, online use and sound recording rights are included. A provider may be licensed to supply music while your business still needs its own OneMusic licence for public performance.

The Recorded Music NZ guidance describes the ordinary rule for businesses using background music supplied from another catalogue. Our terms answer the MelloJam case directly: we own the compositions, recordings, performances and catalogue, our catalogue contains no third-party music, and your plan includes the commercial playback rights we control through the MelloJam player. If your business plays only MelloJam through the player, you do not need a separate APRA AMCOS licence for the MelloJam catalogue. The only exception in our terms is a non-waivable government, statutory or collecting-society charge that local law imposes directly on the venue.
